BEHIND THE SCENES Last month was Storm Amy month. A market that tested our safety protocols to the max and we are delighted to report that we had 100% success. After monitoring many different and varied forecasts in the week running up to the market, it was decided to go ahead because between occasional gusts the forecast was calm. However by Sunday morning, the gusts were the weather and the calm inbetween not so present…. To cancel at this late stage carries a heavy price for all the food traders with fresh produce, but safety has to be paramount. So, every trader was offered the option to duck out with no financial consequence. Half the traders did so, especially the craft traders because of potential damage to stock. Everyone else came prepared – never has a market had such a fine display of ratchets, air elastics and leg weights. Every gazebo was lashed together, leg weights shared and everything the tied to a railing, a building, a bench, even waste bins were used. Every gazebo being put up or taken down was held by at least 2 people and some traders dispensed with gazebos altogether and traded from their cars or vans. Consequently not a singe gazebo flew and not one item was blown over or broken, something usually gets broken each market by being knocked or dropped, so it really was quite remarkable. And you came, so many of you! Thankyou so much! A bit of wind does not deter you and you were all so supportive and on all counts the market was a roaring success (apart from the stress levels of yours truly….) Thankyou one and all!

TRADER PROFILE
Hello, I’m Helen – the creative mind and maker behind HelenGodleyDesigns
I believe that jewellery should do more than just look good – it should feel good too. That’s why I pour my passion into creating colourful and contemporary handmade jewellery that offers all-day comfort without sacrificing style. Whether it’s bold earrings or vibrant necklaces, my pieces are designed to elevate your look while feeling effortless to wear.
I’ve always been captivated by the power of colour. It’s the thread that ties together my journey from Graphic Designer to Jewellery Maker. After 20 years working with global creative agencies, I swapped the corporate world for a freelance life where I could explore my creative passions on my own terms. Now, I spend my days crafting bold, colourful designs – both on screen and at my jewellery bench.
When I’m not in my studio, or on my stall at a local artisan market, then I’m off exploring with my partner Chris and our dog Bosley (he’s part Sausage dog, part Border Terrier, a bit of Jack Russell, and a dash of Sheepdog – a proper character!). We love exploring the UK in our self-converted campervan, and later this month we’re taking a trip over the waters to France – Bosley’s first big adventure abroad!
Follow me on Instagram instagram.com/helengodleydesigns/ or visit my website helengodleydesigns.com to discover more. I’m excited to share my love of colour, design, and adventure with you!
Thanks Helen x
