It’s was busy, it was bustling and there were certainly signs of the season ahead……
Heaton Moor Market was certainly the place to be on Saturday with the wide selection of locally produced food going down a storm……customers almost jumping over each other to nab the last pie!
Christmas gift ideas were on display – we have such creative traders, offering unique, well made gifts – all items can be ordered directly from the stallholder, so be sure to tweet/email them to guarantee you get the items you’d like at the next market.
I must say, with the atmosphere at this October market and the ever impressive range of products on sale, I can’t wait for November and the next #MarketSaturday
This Saturday, 07 September 2013, it’s #MarketSaturday !
Here’s what you will find this month – wonderful choice of locally produced food, crafts & gifts. Come along, stock up, catch up with friends and enjoy the market – see you there!
How lucky we are to have such a wonderful selection of locally produced food, gifts & crafts at our Monthly Market and to hear the response of market goers who enjoy our little market and all there is to buy.
I am continually amazed by the quality & variety of products traders offer each month, and the passion & dedication that they have for their work.
I love being able to bring these wonderful traders to Heaton Moor and for the local community (and beyond) to be able to enjoy the day and the products on offer.
The first Saturday of the month sure does come around quick, and once again, #MarketSaturday is nearly upon us.
August is a funny month – the inevitable Holiday season means many of our regular stallholders are away, as are many customers, and usually means a quieter market. Nonetheless, our market soldiers on……
Fortunately, we have been able to book in some new traders who will be offering exciting products for those of you enjoying the continued good weather and holidaying in The Heatons (will feel like you’re at a market on the streets of Paris!).
Heaton Moor Producers Market has been so well supported over the past few years and has become an event that is much looked forward to each month, by customers and traders alike.
As a result of this, we have been looking at ways in which the market can grow further, but without losing any of it’s appeal or the community feel that it has developed.
The answer – regular specialist markets. After much debate & consideration, we have decided to hold additional “festival” markets that would focus on certain products sold by our traders at the monthly market and incorporate some street food & entertainment into this.
The first is to be an Ale & Food market this coming October- we are looking for local breweries to come along and promote their real ales to the Heatons and sell bottled beer for customers to enjoy at home. We are also looking for local producers to accompany this with items such as pies, tarts, scotch eggs etc
Other specialist markets in the planning include a coffee & chocolate market (March); a flower & garden market (July/August); and maybe even a market especially for bakers – cakes, biscuits, bread………
Look out for updates on these specialist events and for news on local restaurants/delis who will be taking part via Twitter and Facebook.
It’s almost time for the July Heaton Moor Producers Market and, due to demand for stalls, we have expanded! Thanks to The Blue Cat on Shaw Road, we will have stalls inside, as well as outside on the car park between The Kushoom Koly and Kro Heaton Moor.
And, it promises to be a busy & bustling day, with glorious July weather from the look of things (hope I haven’t jinxed that now!!).
After a break over June, I am am really looking forward to getting back to the market in July – and it promises to be a real cracker!
This will be our first month with additional stalls being located in The Blue Cat, just a little further down Shaw Road from the main site between The Kushoom Koly and Kro Heaton Moor. With the extra stall space, we will have an amazing 37 stalls on 06 July. And, this means even more choice of amazing locally produced food and gifts for our market customers.
We will also see the return of two good friends of the market who have been very much missed this year – The Greek Kitchen with their popular vine leaves, and the beautiful artwork of Original Tanzania, who not only have original artwork & prints from Tanzania, but also the most beautiful scarves and children’s puzzles, all with their colourful African designs.
All of these stalls can be found in The Blue Cat.
We will be welcoming back all our regular stallholders that can be found at Heaton Moor Producers market each month, so get your shopping lists together and we’ll be seeing you on Saturday 06 July!
Complimenting our wide selection of locally produced food each month are our very talented Crafters, Makers & Growers – the market is the perfect place to find unique & imaginative creations for your home, or to buy as gifts – you will find the following stalls at the market each month:
Karla brightens the market with her beautiful hand-painted plant pots (available in a range of sizes), wood carvings and Organically grown herb, vegetable and strawberry plants (according to the season). Karla is always happy yo talk to customers about their gardens and give tips & advice to help your gardens grow! Plant pots are available to order.

Natural, Hand Made Skin Care is brought is brought to you by Olive & Rose – these products have won many fans at the market, who come back each month to stock up. The products are beautifully packaged and make wonderful gifts, as well as a lovely treat for yourself! Ask Eleanor to recommend products for your needs and have a try (and smell) of these wonderful products.
Another stall that adds a splash of colour to our market, and which makes such beautiful and imaginative items – Ebb and Flow always have that special something that makes a perfect gift for a child. Jeri is part of the creative force behind Ebb & Flow and is incredibly talented with a needle and thread!
Based in Didsbury, Clare has imaginatively decorated mugs & coasters for areas of Manchester & Cheshire, as well as for occasions. I look forward to seeing the new designs each month and, if you can’t wait for the market, Clare’s mugs can be bought at several shops in and around Manchester & Cheshire.
Heatons-based, The Handmade Home, have created the most wonderful smelling candles, home fragrances and Beauty Products, all handmade from natural ingredients. This is another perfect stall for gifts, or to treat yourself – Victoria puts together beautiful gift sets for that something extra special!

Now, it’s not just yourself, your garden and home that you can buy for at the market, even dogs are provided for with Charlie & Derek’s Dog Treats! Handmade, healthy dog treats are loving made and presented by Ros in her Cheshire Home and brought to you at the market each month. Can also be bought on-line.
Based in Cheshire, The Pate & Wine Co bring delicious homemade Pate to our market each month, including varieties such as Luxurious Duck Parfait, Spicy Red Lentil and Smoked Trout. Look out for their Special Varieties each month and try a sample or two (also love their lasered slate displays!)
Now, this is a stall which certainly draws people in – the smell of freshly roasted coffee being ground by James, our coffee expert! James hand roasts a variety of coffee beans, bringing them to the market for you to buy to make your own fresh coffee at home – available as either whole beans or ground according to your type of coffee maker.
The Blue Agarve stall offers something completely different to our market – a natural sweetening ingredient to sugar. Made from The Blue Agarve Plant in Mexico, this natural sweetener is available in a variety of naturally flavoured syrups for cooking & baking, and it can be added to drinks. The other good part about this product, it is suitable for diabetics.
The “Some Like It Hot” stall is one of those that really fascinates, with the range & variety of dried chillies, smoked garlic, salsas, oils and hot sauce. It is a great opportunity to try something different and talk to Andrew & Philippa about their products and ways to cook with them. I always love the way this stall is set out and it’s wonderful to have such a range of products available at the market.
The Moocher is a relatively new stall at our market but they have proved very popular with their wonderful and unusual range of products – anyone who has been to the market recently will have seen their proper Pork Scratchings, handmade Sausage Rolls & Scotch Eggs and Potted Meats. Well worth a try.
Another relatively new stall at the market, and a very welcome one with our customers! Baked Cheesecakes in a wide range of flavours and sizes – I have tried one and they are delicious! The Cheesecake scan be ordered directly from Manchester Cheesecake if you need one in-between markets, and they can even make them for weddings!
For those who have yet to attend one of our monthly markets, or for those that have not had chance to pop over for a while, I thought I would give you an idea of the range & quality of products that are available at Heaton Moor Producers Market each month….
Paul had been a loyal stall holder at our market for the past 2 years. He travels from Halifax to bring his ever expanding range of freshly baked bread to our market each month. Paul makes & bakes all the bread himself (as well as having made his own brick oven!) and by the time he reaches our market around 9am, Paul is ready for his lunch as he has been up & baking bread since the early hours of the morning!
What is great about the market is that it is an opportunity to buy fresh food, but also try something completely new. Mininki’s offers all of this with their freshly made Pestos (basil, coriander or sun-dried tomato), Savoury gloops (sweet chilli 0r balsamic vinegar & onion), Turkish Bread & Crostini, and Dukkahs (Egyptian nut dip!). Tracey (originally from New Zealand) also makes the most wonderful zesty shortbread!
We were very fortunate to be contacted by a local sausage maker who has now been part of our market for the past 2 years and is always a popular stall (as are their samples!). Ray makes all the sausages, burgers & meatballs, with different varieties available each month, including Pork or Cumberland Sausages, Venison burgers and Spicy Mutton Meatballs.
When All About Pies first came to our market in early 2012, Caroline tells me they quickly sold out of pies. Caroline has told me that, each month, they bring more due to demand, yet they still have none left at the end of the day! And it’s no wonder with the variety of beautifully handmade pies that they offer – new varieties are often added each month, such as Wild Mountain Goat!
We couldn’t have a market without a Chutney stall, and FatJax fits in perfectly with our market. Paul is another stallholder that travels a bit further than some to be at our market each month – he is based in Preston, but we are very grateful that he is a part of our market and makes such wonderful chutneys & relishes as English Orchard Chutney, Mediterranean Relish, Sweet Red Onion & Chili Relish and the popular Bengali Pineapple Chutney (even has it’s own separate Twitter account!).
