Welcome to all our new readers and welcome to Heaton Moor Market!
We are a mid-size market, we have 60+ traders congregating on Shaw Road, Heaton Moor SK4 4AG once a month on the 1st Sunday in every month except January and we look something like this:
NEXT MARKET is SEPTEMBER 6th 10 – 2.30pm
We are an independent market:
We prioritise local traders – we spread our wings if we cannot find a local trader, otherwise we keep geographically close. Our 2 closest traders vie for being crowned the closest, one lives in the flats above the market and another on Derby Range. Imagine that as your commute😊
All our traders make their own produce
Or are direct suppliers eg. Greek Oil Direct is a co-owner of the olive plantation in Greece that produces the oil he sells to us, Plantain Crisps come directly from the producer in Nigeria.
We work very hard not to duplicate stalls, you won’t find 5 brownie stalls and 6 wax melt stalls at our market, it makes for a boring market for the customer and a lacklustre one for the traders.

BEHIND THE SCENES
If you are a Heatons or local resident you probably know that the well loved greengrocers
Unwin’s has closed, leaving a large greengrocery hole in many people’s hearts and shopping lists.
Well….at the last market a nice chap called Rob introduced himself and it turns out he is taking over Unwin’s and is re-opening as a greengrocer’s and keeping the name – Elizabeth has kindly agreed to that. He is very enthusiastic, has a wealth of experience behind him and busy working through all the logistics as I type.
Also on Moor Top you may have read about a new bakery opening – Gather and Grain.
They have also been on the market, they heroically stepped in once when our regular Artisane Bakers couldn’t make it.
They were 2 young men who know their way around baking, they loved the market, but even more they loved the Heatons and our customers – so pat yourselves on the back, maybe we had a tiny bit of influence for them choosing the Heatons!
On Shaw Road itself you may have seen that Pokusevski closed very suddenly.
We are delighted to let you know that Zoran is back in charge and we are waiting to see what comes next for one of our favourite places in Heaton Moor.
Also on Shaw Road we appear to have a resident skip, a lot of work is being done inside one of the vacant shops, which is good news, but frustrating for us at the market, this will be the 3rd month with the skip, 3 months of being 2 traders down because we can’t fit them in because of the skip ☹.
Be great to see the building in use again though – silver linings and all that.
La Taberna has opened, the new tapas place on Shaw Road.
Has anyone been yet? We have had lots of people asking about it at the market, we wish them well!
GOOD NEIGHBOURS
We have helpers this month! A small team of dancers from The Natalie Woods School of Theatre and Dance, based in Heaton Mersey will be fundraising with us and helping to collect rubbish. They have earned themselves an opportunity to dance at Disneyland Paris next year – you can imagine the levels of excitement 😊
And I quote: ‘ It is a once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunity at Disneyland Paris in 2027, where our students will have the chance to take part in a Disney Parade and perform on an international stage.’
All their fundraising is going directly towards travel, costumes and performance expenses.
We are looking forward to meeting and supporting them😊
